Varamin is the capital of Varamin county, which lies south of the Persian capital Tehran. The carpets Varamin have geometric patterns with repeating medallions found especially in corridors. Many of the carpets are made by Varamin nomads who either live in or pass cross Varamin. The colors used in Varamin carpets are dark brown and dark red in a khaki or blue background. Their wool is soft and dense and the weave is tight. The carpets woven in the villages near Varamin use primarily the asymmetric (Persian) knot, whereas the nomads, depending on their ethnicity, use the asymmetric and the symmetric (Turkish) knot. The warp and weft are mainly cotton.
