Nahavand Carpets : Name of the carpets woven in the town of Nahavad in Northwestern Persia, near the city of Hamadan. Nahavand carpets use wool of great quality. The weave is delicate and complex. The colors vary and with dominant shades those of red and blue. The designs are geometric representations of flowers and sometimes scenes from the animal kingdom.
Ornak Carpets : With the name Ornak we mean small carpets that the Nomads use as a sample and as a pattern in order to weave bigger carpets. Every ornak carpet is usually one quarter of the motif of a bigger carpet. When the Nomads weave a carpet by using an Ornak as a pattern they add or leave out some motifs, they may use the same or other colors, so that in the end they create their own creation.
Nomadic carpets with designs influenced by urban carpets: They are carpets woven by nomads who for the past few years had been living in villages. The carpets are woven in the nomadic style of weaving, but their designs are nowadays influenced by urban carpets. Due to the nomadic style of weaving carpets are sometimes uneven in shape.

Horizontal or vertical shading in the carpet pile: The shading is due to folding the carpet during transportation. When the carpet is laid and stepped-on they will vanish. Examples
Abrash: Due to the different amount of grease in the wool and the added salt during the process of dyeing, the wool has got a varying colour absorbance. This is not very visible before weaving. During the weaving though, lines of the same colour are formed in the carpet. This is called Abrash (which in Farsi means little cloud) and it shows that the wool was not manufactured using chemical means and marks the naturalness and authenticity of the carpets. Examples
